Kazuhito Azuma

In a studio nestled in a quiet corner of Kamigamo, Kyoto, Japan, next to the Kami River, Kazuhito Azuma hand throws extraordinary turquoise pots. To achieve the beautifully smooth surface glaze, Kazuhito polishes the pots with water resistant paper after the first firing; a second intense round of firing then follows. Drawing inspiration from the fish that live in the deep oceans, Kazuhito Azuma uses yellow clay sourced from Arita, Kyushu for his works, as the iron pigment in the clay lends itself to achieving the wonderful turquoise colour.
